Supported internships change lives - see our case studies

Sometimes you connect with a client that's so aligned with your interests and values it almost doesn't feel like work at all. That was the case with Youth Futures Foundation, who asked us to join them to interview young people taking part in supported internships and the organisations working with them.

A supported internship is a way for young people to try out working for an organisation, often in a few different roles, with help every step of the way. It takes the pressure off both the young person and the organisation providing the opportunity to have a third party - such as DFN Project Search - supporting them in the role.

Well, what a start to the year for social enterprise. My long-term friend, collaborator and fellow social entrepreneur Lucy Ferguson picked up an MBE in the New Year Honours List for her services to social enterprise and the creative industries.

It's really heartening to see someone like Lucy, who's so genuine in terms of her purpose and approach to business and social value, being recognised in this way.

Lucy and I started our social enterprises together, shared office space, staff, contracts and ideas. We still work together now.

Reflecting on a year of connection and creativity

At the start of 2024 we wanted to look back on our achievements and learning from 2023 and say a huge thanks to all our clients, collaborators, staff and freelancers.

2023 was about understanding what we have to offer as an agency and social enterprise, securing funding for key social and environmental projects and building our commercial client base to enable us to have a greater impact in Margate and on the issues we work on. This year will be about continuing that journey and delivering on some ambitious projects.

Making room for writers in Margate

Co-relate has joined forces with Kent Poetry and HKD to launch the first dedicated hub of studio space for writers in Margate. With funding from Arts Council England, the Writers’ Room brings together writers and members of the wider creative community, providing much-needed subsidised workspace and peer support for anyone working with words. We want to support the local literary ecosystem to grow alongside Margate’s vibrant art scene.
